Sheep breeders from across the country will gather for the eleventh time at the Sts. Peter and Paul Monastery (known as Petropavlovski) near Veliko Tarnovo from St George's Day, May 6, until May 8, the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association (NOCA) said. The national gathering featuring a traditional Bulgarian livelihood and folklore will bring together sheep breeders and fans of farmer food and old culinary traditions.
As usual, the farmers will exchange experience and discuss problems, NOCA Chairman Simeon Karakolev said.
"Bulgarian Food from Bulgarian Stuff" is the motto of the largest exhibition of farmer's products from sheep and goat milk and meat in Bulgaria. Visitors can sample lamb soup cooked for St George's Day, old-style food cooked in a show entitled "In Search of the Lost Taste" and spit-roasted lamb. Arts and crafts and folk entertainments are some of the other attractions.
A national folklore competition entitled "My Lamb Bleated" will be held for the 11th time.
The gathering is organized by NOCA with support from the Agriculture Ministry and the municipalities of Veliko Tarnovo, Lyaskovets and Gorna Oryahovitsa.
The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) and the Bulgarian National Radio are media partners of the event. Since the first edition in 2012, the gathering has attracted more than 1.2 million visitors, the organizers said.
