site.btaBulgarian Navy Destroys Floating Mine 200 m off Shore of Tyulenovo Village

The headquarters of the Bulgarian Navy Monday morning received an alert about a floating object similar to a naval mine by the Regional Governor of Dobrich (Northeastern Bulgaria), the Defence Ministry reported. The object was seen some 200 metres off the shore of the village of Tyulenovo.  

The Panther helicopter on duty at the Chayka naval air base was sent to locate the mine. Its coordinates were broadcast to inform those at sea of the danger.

A cutter with the corresponding military specialists was sent to the coordinates. They classified the mine as a moored Yam type. It was destroyed with a controlled detonation at 4:45 pm.

The Bulgarian Navy remains ready for anti-mine actions to ensure the navigability in Bulgarian maritime spaces, the Defence Ministry said.
