site.btaBird Flu Hotspot Confirmed in Sofia District

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) has detected a hotspot of avian influenza in a quail egg farm in the region of Etropole, Sofia Region. Some 25,000 birds and eggs will be destroyed.

The BFSA Executive Director has issued an order to introduce measures to contain the outbreak.

A 3-km safety zone has been put in place around the town of Etropole. A 10-km monitored area includes the villages of Luga, Lopyan, Ribaritsa, Ymna, Boykovets and the town of Pravets.

An epizootic assessment is carried out and the movements of birds, eggs, processed products, bird feed and transport are monitored.

This is the first hotspot for 2023.
