site.btaNew Application Sheds Light on Budget Organizations Daily Expenses

In 2022, the Bulgarian government will spend over 63 billion leva, said the Institute for Market Economics (IME).The think-tank and Data for Good present a new application which sheds light on the daily expenses of budget organizations: www.data-for-good.bg/sebra.

All public institutions and budget organizations, including the National Social Security Institute and the National Health Insurance Fund, report payments via SEBRA, a System for Electronic Budget Payments. SEBRA’s daily reports are accessible to the public but the data are fragmented and too large to be analyzed, the IME says. The special tool will help anyone who is interested how taxpayers’ money is spent by each organization. The application includes data from all daily reports of budget organization included in SBRA from the beginning of 2019 until now and the data are entered automatically.

The expenses made by each institutions can be followed on a daily basis with a delay of just several days. Only expenses made by municipalities are not accessible via SEBRA. However, in 2022 the Sofia Municipality became the first municipality invited by the Finance Ministry to be included in SEBRA. This means that the budget expenditures of the Sofia Municipality are serviced by the Bulgarian National Bank and the system allows money transfers to be checked at any time. PP
