site.btaCOVID-19 Update: 1,442 New Cases, Test Positivity Rate at 10.96%

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Bulgaria reached 1,134,906, after 13,155 tests identified 1,442 new infections on Monday, 68.86 per cent of which were of unvaccinated persons, according to data posted on https://coronavirus.bg/. The test positivity rate now stands at 10.96 per cent.

Sofia City Region tops the list of new cases with 377 positive tests, followed by Plovdiv Region with 118 and Varna Region with 104 cases.

The active cases are 188,112. Currently, the hospitalized patients number 1,963, including 218 in intensive care. Of the 294 hospital admissions, 78.23 per cent were not vaccinated.

The infected medical staff have reached 24,007, with 31 new cases since Sunday.

Another 2,639 COVID-19 patients have recovered over the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 910,314.

Forty-three fatalities were reported (93.02 per cent unvaccinated), and the death toll now adds up to 36,480.

With 1,398 new inoculations over the last 24 hours, 4,346,559  vaccine doses have been administered so far, 2,049,587 people are fully vaccinated, and 719,339  have received a booster jab.
 
Tuesday saw the lift of the compulsory testing for COVID-19 in schools, with the last planned testing conducted on March 28. All other anti-epidemic measures in schools remain in effect: the wearing of protective masks, distancing where possible, and regular airing of classrooms. 

The testing of school students was introduced on November 10, 2021 as a condition for in-person classes in municipalities with high COVID-19 infection rates. Initially, students were tested twice weekly but as of December the COVID-19 tests had to be done once per week only.
