site.btaBulgarian Socialist Party: North Macedonia’s EU Accession Cannot Happen at the Expense of Bulgaria’s National Interest and History

BSP leader Korneliya Ninova, Deputy Parliament Chair Kristian Vigenin and BSP for Bulgaria floor leader Georgi Svilenski met on Thursday with EU Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Policy Olivér Várhelyi to discuss the start of North Macedonia’s negotiations for joining the EU, the BSP press centre said.

The BSP reaffirmed its current position: North Macedonia’s accession cannot happen at the expense of Bulgaria’s national interest and history. Hate speech and discrimination against Bulgarians are unacceptable to us. The Bulgarian government is making every effort, we have expanded the dialogue between the two countries, but more efforts are needed from North Macedonia to implement the bilateral treaty of good neighbourliness.
