Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov reached the quarterfinals in the prestigious Monte Carlo Masters 1000 tournament with a win over fourth seed Casper Ruud (Norway) – 6:3, 7:5.

30-year-old Dimitrov had an excellent start of the match and went 5:1 up in the opener, which was crucial and secured him the lead. The Bulgarian dominated most of the longer rallies, winning 19 of all 29 points over five shots.

The second set was tight, both players served well, and there were no break points until the twelfth game, when Dimitrov got to 40:0 on Ruud’s serve and closed the match with his third match point.

The Bulgarian, a world No. 29, will next meet eleventh seed Hubert Hurkacz (Poland).
