A survey by the National Statistical Institute released on Monday shows an increase in pessimism in consumer assessments and expectations in April compared to January.

The overall consumer confidence indicator decreased by 4.9 percentage points compared to its level three months ago, due to lower confidence among the population in both rural and urban areas - by 5.7 and 4.6 percentage points, respectively.

Consumers' views on the development of the general economic situation in the country over the past twelve months, as well as expectations for the next twelve months, are more pessimistic than the previous observation, as a result of which balance sheet indicators decreased by 11.8 and 15 points respectively. Their assessments and expectations regarding the changes in the financial condition of their households are also more negative than in January.

Consumers continue to believe that consumer prices have increased over the last twelve months. At the same time, their inflation expectations for the next twelve months are growing (increase in the balance sheet by 4.9 points).

With regard to unemployment in the country over the next twelve months, the forecasts shifted to more moderate opinions, as a result of which the balance sheet indicator decreased by 5.4 points.

The current economic situation in the country continues to be assessed by the majority of consumers as unfavorable for saving. They also have a negative attitude towards spending on the purchase of durable goods, buying or building a home (villa) and home improvements over the next twelve months.
