It is of paramount importance to get all Bulgarian citizens and institutions to improve their cyber hygiene and to define critical infrastructure from the point of view of security, Deputy E-Government Minister Blagovest Kirilov said on Wednesday during an AI n' Cyber Conference 2022 in Sofia, as quoted by his ministry.
Kirilov said: "Only relevant measures in every aspect of the development of network and information security combined with active cooperation among the institutions, the academic community and the private sector can produce real results and greater security in cyberspace in an ever more rapidly developing digital society."
Malpractice prevention is another aspect of cybersecurity, Kirilov said, noting that the state should guarantee to the citizens that the public services they use are safe and protected. He recalled a cyber attack on Bulgarian Posts, which damaged the national postal operator's computer systems.
Data of the E-Government Ministry show that 26% of Internet traffic is malicious bot traffic generated by software programs. About 80% of all reported online incidents are phishing attacks in which a fraudulent message is sent, designed to trick a person into revealing sensitive information to the attacker or to deploy malicious software on the victim's infrastructure like ransomware.
