The former captain of the Bulgarian national football team Hristo Stoichkov shared on his Facebook page his gratitude, after the English football magazine FourFourTwo ranked him 89th in its list of the 100 best football players of all time.

This places the Bulgarian footballer higher than such players as Roberto Carlos, Peter Schmeichel, Luis Figo, Javier Zanetti, George Weah, Kaka, and Mario Kempes.

FourFourTwo explains Stoichkov's rank with his accomplishments in the Bulgarian national team - most notably a 4th place in the 1994 World Cup. The article also points out the Bulgarian's time in Barcelona, when he won four league titles and the European Cup.

The list is headed by Argentinian Lionel Messi, followed by his compatriot Diego Maradona. The other players in the top ten are Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele, Zinedine Zidane, Johan Cruyff, George Best, Franz Beckenbauer, Ferenc Puskas, and Ronaldo.
