site.btaTennis: Daniil Medvedev Downs Grigor Dimitrov at Vienna Semifinal
Grigor Dimitrov's spate of victories at the Erste Bank Open tennis tournament in Vienna was interrupted on Saturday by Russia's Daniil Medvedev. The former No.1 in the world defeated the Bulgarian 6-4 6-2 in 1:16 hours in the semifinal of the ATP 500 indoor tournament.
Bulgaria's best male tennis player of all time was trying to reach his first final of the season. He put a lot of effort, but Medvedev showed top class befitting his status as No. 1 seed in the tournament and No. 4 in the world rankings. Dimitrov, a former No. 3 in the world, made 23 unforced errors against only 5 made by Medvedev.
This was Medvedev's fourth win in six matches against Dimitrov.
The Bulgarian, who had slipped to 32nd in the world before the Vienna tournament, will now add 180 points to his score. He has earned EUR 125,970 out of a total of EUR 2,349,180 in prize money from the tournament.
