The Communication Strategy for Information and Publicity of Bulgaria's Accession to the Euro Area was adopted by the Coordination Council for Preparation of Bulgaria for Euro Area Membership, the Finance Ministry said on Friday.
The adoption of the Communication Strategy is a key step towards the country's accession to the euro area and is in line with the Resolution passed by Parliament on October 27, 2022, which obliges the Council of Ministers, in coordination with the Bulgarian National Bank, to accelerate the consultations and negotiations with the European institutions and the technical preparations so as to meet the January 1, 2024 target deadline for adoption of the euro.
The Communication Strategy is based on the National Plan for Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria adopted by the Cabinet, and lays down the principles and tasks of a comprehensive information and communication campaign; the institutions responsible for the individual activities; the stages of their implementation; the target groups; and the information distribution channels.
The purpose of the Communication Strategy is to promote the process of the country's preparation for joining the euro area as the changeover to the euro will affect everyone living or travelling to and from Bulgaria. The information campaign will aim to provide accurate, accessible, comprehensible, timely and comprehensive information about all aspects of introduction of the euro: the process of exchanging the lev with the euro (exchange rate, timing, prices, etc.) and the changes in the Bulgarians' everyday life and in the economy, with a focus on consumer protection measures.
The adoption of the Communication Strategy is a step towards answering all questions that the Bulgarian citizens will raise, including concerns about rising prices and changing incomes.
