In a phone call with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala confirmed his country's support for Bulgaria and Romania to join the Schengen Area without further delay, the Bulgarian President's Press Secretariat said in a press release here on Monday. Czechia currently holds the rotating Presidency of the EU Council.
The Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU continues until the end of the year. Croatia, Romania and Bulgaria’s inclusion in Schengen is among the priorities of the Czech Presidency.
Radev welcomed the Czech presidency's constructive approach on the issue and voiced hope for a positive result for Bulgaria's accession to the Schengen area by the end of 2022.
"The findings of the inspections, which took place recently at the invitation of Bulgaria and Romania, were positive and confirmed our readiness or accession," Radev said.
Fiala agreed on Bulgaria's successful results and said the Czech Presidency fully supports the simultaneous accession of Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia to the Schengen area by the end of 2022.
