Vazrazhdane party leader and floor leader Kostadin Kostadinov made a statement in Parliament Wednesday demanding that the MPs adopt a resolution requiring from the government to revise the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) which he claimed "threatens and in practice eliminates Bulgaria's energy independence".

Kostadinov reminded that his party had submitted a draft resolution to this effect back on October 27.

Kostadinov argued that the most important task of the incumbent Parliament is to avert "the catastrophe which the four-party coalition of Continue the Change, Democratic Bulgaria, BSP For Bulgaria, and There Is Such a People caused with the proposed closure of the Maritsa-East energy complex". The MP said that closing the complex, which is the biggest mining and energy facility in Southeast Europe, will be "a crime against the national security, a death warrant for the energy sector and an economic murder".

Kostadinov said that at certain times, the Maritsa-East complex generates more than half of the power consumed in Bulgaria.

The MP further recalled opinions from various ministries according to which amending the NRRP is not only possible but fully legitimate. Kostaninov urged for forming a nationally responsible majority on the issue. He said Vazrazhdane has held a series of talks in Parliament and recalled that GERB-UDF had expressed support for the draft resolution while the BSP For Bulgaria had not yet come up with a clear stand. In his words, the support of the Socialists is "of key importance to save the Maritsa East complex".
