The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) and Armenia's national information agency, ARMENPRESS, Wednesday signed an agreement to deepen their cooperation launched back in October 2004. The document was signed by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and ARMENPRESS Director Narine Nazaryan.
Under the agreement, the two agencies will exchange and publish one article by the partnering country in addition to the traditional information flow between them. The document also marks the start of journalist exchange practices between BTA and ARMENPRESS.
During the signing ceremony, BTA Director General Valchev quoted an Armenian proverb saying that "today's words are tomorrow's bridges". He expressed his belief that "we will build many new bridges between us". The Bulgarian and Armenian peoples are connected by the common Christian faith, and there is symbolism in the fact that the agreement is signed on the feast day of St John of Rila the Miracle Worker, who called for living in consensus.
The ARMENPRESS Director expressed hope that this new agreement will deepen further the relations between the two agencies as it is one more step towards strengthening the trust in each other.
"This agreement will allow our countries to be closer to each other, build a new history of friendship with the main goal of strengthening trust, making societies more aware of one another," said she.
She also noted that ARMENPRESS has bilateral cooperation agreements with 25 leading information agencies around the world, and the one with BTA is the fourth for 2022 following the agreements with the agencies of Argentina, Qatar, and Italy.
For BTA, the agreement with ARMENPRESS is the 17th with a partnering world agency on daily exchange and publication of news. It was signed against the backdrop of a state visit to Bulgaria by Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
