site.btaPM Petkov: No Russian Investors in Gemcorp
Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said that the inspection appointed by him has shown so far that there are no Russian investors in Gemcorp, which together with IP3 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bulgarian Government for investment in the energy sector. “When we signed the MoU, we checked whether they have Russian investors at the moment, which they do not”, Petkov assured MPs during Friday’s parliamentary control. He added that he has appointed an inspection for five years back in time.
Petkov recalled that the signed document is only a letter of intent which is not binding.
MP from the opposition GERB-UDF Desislava Trifonova asked whether Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Assen Vassilev had privately received funds from Gemcorp, which was denied by Petkov.
On March 23, the Bulgarian Energy Ministry signed a MoU with British asset management company Gemcorp Holding LtD and US nuclear power project management company IP3 Corporation. By the Memorandum, the parties commit to cooperate in the planning and implementation of projects for the production of clean energy, alternative and strategic gas deliveries, the safeguarding of energy supply, and nuclear power development.
