French multinational company Schneider Electric broke ground on Monday for an expansion of its smart factory in Plovdiv. EUR 60 million-plus will be invested in installing three new automated production lines for circuit breakers on a newly built area of 3,000 sq m. Over 100 new jobs will be created by mid-2023, Plant Managing Director Mariya Topchiyska said at the ceremony.
As a result, the output volume of the company's Bulgarian operation will increase by nearly 30% to meet heightened demand and cope with a steadily increasing order book.
Schneider Electric established a presence in Bulgaria in 1998 and set up its local subsidiary in 1998. It opened its plant in Plovdiv in 2007, investing EUR 22 million in it, and over 70% of the processes there are already automated. Its annual output tops 40 million circuit breakers, and it employs a staff of 900-plus.
