After an agrément received from Bulgaria and a decree signed by North Macedonia's President Stevo Pendarovski, Agneza Rusi Popovska has been appointed that country's ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Bulgaria, North Macedonia's Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

North Macedonia's media reported in early February that Rusi, a career diplomat, had been nominated by North Macedonia's Foreign Ministry as ambassador to Bulgaria. The decision was made at a closed-doors cabinet meeting.

Rusi so far headed North Macedonia's Permanent Mission to the European Union.

Visiting Skopje in January, Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said that within 60 days North Macedonia will send an ambassador to Bulgaria, who will be "proactive, young and business-minded."

The ambassadorial post in Bulgaria has been vacant since 2020.
