Caretaker Finance Minister Rositza Velkova will participate in a conference to mark Croatia's euro changeover taking place in the capital Zagreb, on Tuesday, January 24. Such a conference is held usually after a country becomes part of the community of countries that use the euro as their official currency.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde are expected to make video statements at the event.

The forum itself will be attended by the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Valdis Dombrovskis, who is in charge of the Economy for the People portfolio, and Paolo Gentiloni, also in charge of the economy portfolio.

Finance Minister Rositza Velkova, who is in Zagreb at the invitation of the Croatian government, held a meeting with the head of the European Commission representation for Croatia, Ognian Zlatev, late on Monday evening. They discussed a number of issues concerning Bulgaria's and Croatia's path to the euro area, and the possibility of exchanging experience.

After taking part in the forum "Croatia - the twentieth member of the euro area", the caretaker finance minister will meet the Croatian Chief State Inspector Andrija Mikulic. The two are expected to discuss Zagreb's actions to tackle the unfair trade practices the country has witnessed since January 1, when the euro was adopted as the official currency and when a number of traders in Croatia decided to round up the prices of the goods and services they offer.
