North Macedonia's Deputy Prime Minister Slavica Grkovska, who is responsible for good governance policies, shared her country's experience in establishing an independent state commission for corruption prevention with Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister for Good Governance Kalina Konstantinova and Justice Minister Nadezhda Yordanova, the government in Skopje said.
The working meeting was attended by North Macedonia's Deputy Justice Minister Agim Nuhiu and Biljana Ivanovska, President of the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption.
The meeting was prompted by Yordanova's interest in Skopje's experience in setting up the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption and in guaranteeing its independence since Bulgaria is faced with challenges in this area, said the press release. The Bulgarian Justice Minister stressed the government was working on new legislation designed to strengthen the fight against corruption.
Biljana Ivanovska said North Macedonia's Law on Prevention of Corruption and Conflicts of Interest of January 2019 provides for an independent professional anti-corruption commission with strengthened competences.
Deputy Prime Minister Grkovska said the working meeting with the Bulgarian officials was part of cooperation within the Joint Intergovernmental Working Group on European Integration and Green Policies, set up earlier this year, which offers an excellent opportunity for exchanging good practices, the press release said.
