site.btaTurkey's Edirne: Centre of Shopping Tourism from Bulgaria and Other Balkan Countries
According to data of Turkey's Culture and Tourism Ministry, since the start of 2022 Edirne has been visited for weekend shopping by over 500,000 people, primarily from Bulgaria and Greece. Bulgarians account for 95 per cent of these visits.
Bahri Dinar, head of an association promoting Edirne's development, said that the number of Bulgarian tourists who visit the city on weekends exceeds several-fold the 150,000 residents of Edirne. On Fridays, the streets, markets and food and drink establishments in the Turkish city fill primarily with Bulgarian tourists, which together with the Greeks make the trade in Edirne flourish, he commented.
Even more Bulgarian tourists are expected in Edirne in April in light of the Easter holiday.
