Bulgaria and Romania have a shared responsibility to guarantee together security in the region, said Bulgarian Defence Minister Dragomir Zakov after a meeting with his Romanian counterpart Vasile Dincu in Bucharest on Friday, the Defence Ministry said.

The two discussed the complicated security environment in the Black Sea region after the Russian aggression in Ukraine. They exchanged opinion on NATO’s agenda ahead of the bloc’s summit in Madrid in June.

Dincu and Zakov noted that bilateral relations in the area of defence have entered a new stage of intensive development. Minister Zakov said that the two countries will continue joint participation in multinational exercises to improve the interoperability of their armed forces. The Bulgarian Defence Minister familiarized his host with the establishment of a multinational battlegroup on Bulgaria’s territory.
