"Today is a historical day," said Azeri Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov near the Greek town of Komotini where he attended a ceremony to mark the completion of construction of a gas interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria (IGB). The ceremony is attended by outgoing Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and outgoing Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov.
The commissioning of the gas link between Greece and Bulgaria is an important step because access to energy sources is very important, he said. According to him, the interconnector gives new opportunities for diversification together with the Southern Corridor.
This network contributed to Europe's energy security, said Minister Parviz Shahbazov.
He said that by the end of the year Bulgaria will receive 430 million cu m of natural gas from Azerbaiajn. In the first half of the year it received 160 million cu m.
Azeri Energy Minister added that the interconnector will make it possible for his country's natural resources help meet Bulgaria's needs and enhance Europe's diversification.
