Customs inspectors at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint (on the border with Turkey) have prevented a fifth attempt this month to smuggle through undeclared foreign currency, the Customs Agency said in a press release Thursday.

The money was found on Wednesday in a passenger bus travelling from Romania to Turkey. The bus carried eleven passengers and had a steward. The vehicle was driven by a Turkish national.

The undeclared foreign currency was found in the steward's luggage, packed in 15 parcels, containing GBP 133,640 and SBP 15,500, equal to BGN 346,799.

An investigation is under way.

Since the start of the year to date, the customs inspectors at this border checkpoint have intercepted the equivalent of BGN 14.5 million.
