The road in Turkey, which leads to the Hamzabeyli/Lesovo border checkpoint on the border with Bulgaria, is jammed with trucks carrying goods for European countries. The queue was over 20 kilometers long for the second day in a row, Turkish media reports.
Turkish drivers claimed that queues for kilometers, accompanied by waiting for several days, have become a constant phenomenon.
"We don't know who to complain to anymore because the situation has been going on for a long time. But lately it has gotten even worse. We are waiting a few days to pass the Bulgarian customs. No toilets, no water, in heat or cold. At night, there is a danger of illegal refugees sneaking into the trailers and we risk being punished for illegal human trafficking, so we are on duty in night shifts around the trucks", a driver named Kamuran Ersoy told Haberler.
The carriers insist on the construction of larger parking lots for Bulgarian customs checkpoints or the opening of another border crossing from Turkey to Bulgaria.
