President Rumen Radev sent a greetings message and had a telephone conversation with the President of North Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski on the occasion of the country's national day, which is called Republic Day or Ilinden, Radev's Press Secretariat reported.

Radev said: "The Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising of 1903 was a milestone in the common history of Bulgaria and North Macedonia and is just one example of the rich spiritual, cultural and historical heritage which has created a strong bond between our two countries and their citizens."

The Bulgarian President further said: "Our common history should become a real factor for greater closeness between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia, and the two countries' statespersons ought to contribute to that. The stated ambition for a common future in united Europe should translate into real actions to build and promote good neighbourly relations in the best interests of the citizens, which is what they expect."
