The tourist season was very successful, Montenegrin Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Goran Djurovic said, stressing the tangible increase of tourist flow in the country’s northern municipalities, national media reported.

Boosting tourism in the country’s less developed regions is set down as an objective in all programme documents related to the sector.

Over 1.14 million tourists have stayed at all types of accommodation facilities from January to July 2022, 44.7% more than in the same period of 2021. A total of 6.13 million overnights were registered, or 38% up year-on-year, according to data reported before the parliamentary Committee on Tourism, Agriculture, Ecology and Spatial Planning.

According to Djurovic, 86% of tourist flow in terms of number of tourists and 87% in terms of overnights have been achieved in comparison to the peak 2019. The minister also quoted national statistics which state that over 620,000 tourists registered at collective accommodation places in the seven months in question, 78% more year-on-year and 90% of the tourist flow in January-July 2019. The number of overnights for the same period amounts to 92% of the overnights in the pre-pandemic 2019.
