During his visits to the municipalities of Zimnicea and Turnu Magurele, Bulgarian Ambassador in Romania, Radko Vlaykov, said that the main messages he received were appeals to the the governments of Bulgaria and Romania to connect the two banks of the Danube with new bridges. More bridges will be of great importance for businesses, for prosperity and contacts between people in the region, the diplomat told BTA.
In Zimnicea, Vlaykov, accompanied by the mayor of Svishtov Gencho Genchev, discussed with Mayor Petre Parvu and the management of the municipality the implementation of the joint projects between the two municipalities under the cross-border cooperation programmers. Parvu and Genchev presented numerous arguments for the urgent need for a bridge between the two banks. They recalled of a Zimnicea - Svishtov bridge there as early as the Roman Empire. They insisted that the authorities in Bulgaria and Romania undertake without delay this ten-year-old idea.
In Turnu Magurele, Vlaykov, accompanied by the mayor of Nikopol Ivelin Savov, spoke with the Danut Cuclea and the management of the municipality about the need for a bridge between Nikopol and Turnu Magurele.
Ambassador Vlaykov's visit to Zimnicea and Turnu Magurele comes after his visits to Calarasi, Oltenitsa, Giurgiu. After the Bulgarian diplomat completes his tour of the the Romanian Danube municipalities, during which he was accompanied by the mayors of the respective Danube municipalities from Bulgaria, a general meeting of the managements of the Danube municipalities and regions from Bulgaria and Romania will take place with the support of the state managements of both sides.
