site.btaMayors on Both Sides of Danube Demand Bridge between Silistra and Calarasi
That a decision for building a bridge across the Danube between Calarasi and Silistra be taken as soon as possible was a focal point in the official addresses and talks on Calarasi Day. Participants in the celebrations included representatives of the twinned Bulgarian municipalities of Silistra and Razgrad, as well as the eponymous city in Moldova, Bulgarian Ambassador to Romania, Radko Vlaikov, told BTA. Vlaikov was guest of honour at the event.
Vlaikov and senior Romanian officials also attending the celebrations once again discussed the advantages such a bridge would have for the two regions in both Bulgaria and Romania as a whole, as well as the ways to overcome the decade-long delay in its construction. Calarasi Mayor Marius-Grigore Dulce confirmed the readiness of both cities to host a joint meeting between the leaderships of the two Danubian municipalities.
"The bridge is much needed. People want it. Together with the mayor of Silistra we are already discussing how we can act directly at regional level and get EU support", Marius-Grigore Dulce said during the talks with Vlaikov.
