Marjan Milanov, an English teacher and author of the blog Virtual Museum Caribrod, who is from Dimitrovgrad, Serbia, won third prize for the comic strip “Wind: at the International Competition of Historical Comics CAN for Balkans, which took place in October in Brasov. Romania. The comic strip was drawn by Srdan Todorovic, an artist from Zajcar, the Novo Bratstvo newspaper and FAR, a multimedia Bulgarian and Serbian portal, told BTA.
CAN for Balkans is a Balkan alliance of comic strip writers, created within a EU-funded project. The official partners under the project are Romania, Serbia, Belgium, North Macedonia and Albania, but it showcases comics from Bulgaria and other countries.
The aim of the project is to unite writers of comics from the Balkans and Europe to create and commission comics which will counter propaganda, cliches, stereotypes and prejudices, and will bring closer these countries through comics in order to know better and in greater detail the art of the other and the cultural and historical heritage.
An exhibition of all comic strips that entered the competition was displayed in Brasov in October and is to tour all partnering countries.
Milanov has been a scriptwriter for more than ten years. Previously, he won first place for best script at the International Comics Festival SKC in Belgrade for the comic strip Letter. Milanov lives and works in Nis.
