Customs officers from the Anti-Drug Department at the Territorial Directorate Sofia Customs detained 3.5 kg of cocaine during an inspection of a passenger car at the Gyueshevo border crossing checkpoint.
Around 1 pm on November 10, customs officers inspected a Mercedes leaving Bulgaria. Under the front left seat, a specially built cache was found, which was opened by an automatic mechanism. Three packets of a white powdery substance were concealed there. The field drug test identified it as cocaine. The total quantity amounted to 3,580 kilos and has an estimated value of BGN 161,100.
Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case for an attempt to smuggle a high-risk narcotic substance across the country's border.
The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old S.K. from Sofia, was charged with the offence and detained for up to 72 hours. The Kyustendil District Prosecutor's Office submitted to the court a request for a detention order against the accused.
