site.btaUPDATED Sofia Appellate Court Leaves Istanbul Terror Attack Suspects in Custody
The four detainees suspected of involvement in the November 13 Istanbul terror attack were remanded in custody by the Sofia Appellate Court (SAC). The SAC ruling is final.
The request of the prosecution service to have a closed hearing for the four detainees was granted by SAC. The reason is that the case file contains materials from the State Agency for National Security, which contain classified information.
On November 19, the Prosecutor General's spokesperson said five persons suspected of involvement in the November 13 Istanbul terror attack had been detained in Bulgaria. One of them, a woman with health problems, was not remanded in custody.
A week ago, the Sofia City Court remanded the detainees in custody despite the lack of evidence that Syrian Amran Abdulrami, Peter Topal, who has Bulgarian and Moldovan citizenship, and Moldovan nationals Ivan Kalak and Leonid Aksakal were involved in the attack. The only link to the attack was a mobile phone used by Abdulrami to contact an alleged participant in the attack.
Russian and Arabic interpreters were provided for the suspects.
