Artist Ljubisa Penev is the winner of this year's Maxim Minchev Award for contribution to the development of civil society and democratic values, it emerged at Wednesday’s celebration of the seventh anniversary of the opening of the BTA press club in Bosilegrad.

The award was instituted in October 2021 by the Managing Board of the GLAS Association of Bossilegrad to commemorate former BTA Director Maxim Minchev and his work.

Ljubisa Penev was born in October 1989 in Bosilegrad. In recent years, he has participated in a number of exhibitions and competitions in Bulgaria, Serbia and elsewhere.

Penev is the founder of the ¨Manime¨ Bosilegrad animation school which participates in international festivals for children's animation in Serbia and Bulgaria. He is the president of the Union of Watercolorists of Serbia, member of the Bulgarian Union of Artists. Currently he is also an art teacher at the primary school in Bosilegrad, and in his free time he works with talented Bosilegrad children at a music and pottery workshop.
