site.btaForeign Ministry: Bulgaria Will Continue to Support Kosovo to Become a Part of the EU Family

Bulgaria will continue to support Kosovo to become a part of the EU family. Kosovo’s application for EU membership demonstrates clear intent for continuation of the EU reform agenda, the Foreign Ministry tweeted on Friday.

On Thursday, Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti submitted the country’s application for accession to the European Union.

Before eventual membership, Kosovo must reach an agreement with Serbia to normalise relations, Reuters noted. The EU is already working on a deal it hopes both sides will agree to within a year.

Kosovo’s independence is recognized by around 110 states, but not by Serbia, Russia, China and five EU member countries – Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Spain.

It is the only country in the region until now not to have applied to join the EU.
