The Invest Sofia Agency will coordinate future contacts between Brcko District in Bosnia and Herzegovina and experts of Sofia Municipality. This emerged during a visit of a delegation from Brcko to the Bulgarian capital, Invest Sofia reports on its website.
The visiting delegation included Brcko District Mayor Esed Kadric, members of the local administration, the head of the office of the Council of Ministers coordinator for Brcko District, and the heads of the departments for European integration and international cooperation, economic development, and regional development and legislation harmonization. They were welcomed by Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova.
The visit came a day after Bosnia and Herzegovina received candidate status to join the EU.
Bilateral working meetings held throughout Friday were aimed to share experience and consider potential partnerships between Sofia and Brcko.
Invest Sofia Agency President Nikolai Stoinev presented the largest EU programmes and projects on which Sofia Municipality has been working over the last few years, and good practices in addressing problems which the Bulgarian capital has already overcome. During the current programming period, Sofia Municipality has implemented over 50 EU projects totalling more than BGN 2.5 billion, supported by BGN 1.8 billion in EU grants.
The sides considered possibilities for interaction in tourism. The guests were briefed on the initiatives and the international events related to the initiative "Sofia - European Capital of Sport".
The closing discussions focused on business support mechanisms. Nikolai Tsenkov, Director of the Municipal Guarantee Fund for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, spoke about the fund's work. Invest Sofia Investment Department Chief Viktor Gusev presented the economic profile of Sofia Municipality and the agency's activities.
