site.btaPM Donev: LNG Access Deal a Milestone in Bulgaria-Turkiye Relations
Tuesday's agreement which gives Bulgaria access to the Turkish LNG terminals for 13 years is a milestone in the two countries' partnership, Bulgaria's caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev told Turkiye's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Donmez in Sofia on Tuesday, minutes after the deal was signed.
Donev expressed his conviction that the agreement is a good starting point for achieving even more significant results which will be beneficial to the two countries and the whole region. He described the deal as "historic", noting that this is the first time that Turkiye gives an external company (Bulgargaz) access to its LNG terminals. Furthermore, Donev said, the agreement provides an opportunity for long-term cooperation for energy diversification. "Amid a severe energy crisis, we can make concerted efforts to achieve much more for Bulgaria and Turkiye and for Europe as a whole," the Prime Minister said.
He pointed to a number of projects of mutual interest which can be implemented shortly, including natural gas storage capacity building, investing in renewable energy resources, increasing the capacity of the electricity transmission network and making the transition to a carbon neutral economy.
