The Bulgarian community in Bucharest laid wreaths to mark the 175th birth anniversary of poet and freedom fighter Hristo Botev, the Bulgarian Embassy in Romania said. Attending were Ambassador Radko Vlaikov, Ruse Regional Governor Anatoli Stanev and Ruse Mayor Pencho Milkov.
Ambassador Radko Vlaikov said that Bulgarians should be thankful to Romania because many Bulgarian revolutionaries found refuge there to prepare the Bulgarian revolution.
He recalled that Botev spent around nine years of his life in Romania.
Also attending were Association Euroregion Danubius Executive Director Lili Gancheva, Bulgarian embassy employees, representatives of the Union of Banat Bulgarians in Romania, the Democratic Union of Bulgarians in Romania and a number of Bulgarian and Romanian associations. Luka Velchov, chairman of the Bratstvo Association, said that a tour of the places where Botev lived, worked and dreamed, will take place on Sunday.
