At its meeting on Wednesday, the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs decided to hear in a closed session caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Milkov and Bulgaria’s Ambassador to North Macedonia Angel Angelov. The hearing is in relation to the rights of Bulgarians in North Macedonia, the escalation of hate crimes against them and developments in bilateral relations.

The secretary of the King Boris III Bulgarian cultural centre Hristian Pendikov was beaten on the evening of January 19 in Ohrid. He received serious injuries and is currently being treated at the MMA-Sofia. Earlier this week, North Macedonia’s President Stevo Pendarovski proposed that one MEP and several other persons from Bulgaria be banned from entering North Macedonia. For his part, head of State Rumen Radev said that all European mechanisms would be activated "so that this anti-Bulgarian hatred and hysteria is put to an end".
