Acting on its own initiative, the Sofia City Prosecution Office has tasked the Interior Ministry and the State Agency for National Security (SANS) to look into media information that the truck believed to have been used in the October 8 bombing of the Crimea bridge, had passed through Bulgaria. The prosecution service said in a press release Tuesday that it expects all data gathered during the check to be reported to it so that it can assess them and determine whether there are grounds for launching pretrial proceedings.

The press release also reads that the prosecuting magistracy has received a letter from SANS saying the Agency is conducting a check into the matter by order of caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev.

On Monday, government spokesman Anton Koutev told BTA that Donev had demanded information from the security services about the truck. The matter is being checked by the SANS and the Interior Ministry, and the results are expected, Koutev added.

Aleksandr Bastrykin, the head of Russia's Investigative Committee, was reported saying last week that a truck suspected in the Crimea bridge bombing had been to Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, and Russia's North Ossetia region and Krasnodar, among other places. The Russian authorities put the blame for the attack squarely on Kyiv.
