Currently, 17,462 Ukrainian refugees live at various accommodation facilities across th country and half of them are children, said Mnday Tourism Minister Ilin Dimitrov. According to him since the launch of the government scheme a total of 220,100 people have stayed for various length of time at accommodation establishments.
Dimitrov said that the administration of refugees should not be tasked to the Tourism Ministry. He said that this uses up huge resources of the ministry, given that there other institutions which should be in charge.
How and whether the accommodation scheme for refugees will continue will be up to the interdepartmental council, said the Minister. According to him, the decision should be made very soon because it does not make sense that people should continue to live in summer resorts when children should have to go to schools.
The Innovations and Growth Ministry has allocated BGN 62.8 million under the Competitiveness Programme for the reception of refugees, said Innovations Minister Alexander Pulev. According to him over 93,000 people received assistance and overnights exceed 1 million. The Minister said that now the Tourism Ministry has presented a new project for assistance of refugees which is worth BGN 9 million.
