Prime Minister Galab Donev met Tuesday with the President of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan, who is paying a state visit to Bulgaria. In the course of the meeting, Donev underscored the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries, as well as the years and years of historical and cultural ties between the Bulgarian and Armenian peoples, the government information service said.
The meeting at the Boyana Residence focused on the opportunities to boost trade and economic relations between the two countries. Armenia is a traditional economic partner to Bulgaria, one with whom it wants to develop mutually beneficial long-term cooperation on both bilateral terms, and within the European Union’s development policy concerning Caucasus and the Black Sea region, Donev noted.
The sides exchanged views on the specific fields of promoting bilateral cooperation, as well as on projects and initiatives where Bulgarian and Armenian business could interact, including in high tech, digital connectivity and communication.
Donev and Khachaturyan particularly stressed the benefits that would entail from a constantly operating direct flight between Sofia and Yerevan. Such a direct connection would doubtless have a positive effect not only on the trade and economic relations between Bulgaria and Armenia, but also on boosting cooperation in fields like tourism and culture, as well as contacts between people.
