During day two of his state visit to Bulgaria, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan delivered a public lecture at Sofia University highlighting the milestones in the development of Armenia's economy and the global and regional challenges facing it.

Khachaturyan is in Bulgaria at the invitation of President Rumen Radev. His state visit will last until October 20.

He said in his lecture that Armenia's gross domestic product is expected to grow by between 11% and 11.8% in 2022, a remarkable achievement amid global crises. Among the drivers of the country's economic growth, he singled out the labour flow to Armenia propelled by the war in Ukraine, which is bringing mainly skilled workers and IT experts.

Information and communication technology and tourism are among the most attractive sectors of the Armenian economy which provide opportunities for development, the guest said. According to him, Armenia is a great place to do business due to its relaxed rules for company registration and setting up a bank account.

Khachaturyan went on to say that major changes have occurred in his country since 2018 relating to the rule of law, the level of democracy, freedom of speech, human rights and freedom to do business. He underscored the importance of the fight against corruption. There is a political will to curb corruption which is most damaging to the national economy, he said.
