The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and Continue the Change (CC) called on the caretaker government to table a new draft state budget version for 2023, and not to extend the current 2022 budget. At a meeting in parliament, the BSP and CC discussed the draft 2023 budget and the social measures envisaged in it.
CC co-leader Assen Vassilev called on the other parties to first think about the macroeconomic parameters, then to cost the policies and submit a declaration to the government for tabling an actual 2023 budget. According to him, what is tabled now is not a state budget act, but an act for extending some of the measures under the 2022 budget. Thus, no financial parameters of the 2022 budget can be changed, Vassilev stressed.
BSP leader Korneliya Ninova said that it would be the best for the caretaker cabinet to table a draft budget and that if they do not do so, her party will find a way to support the households and businesses during the winter months.
CC other co-leader, Kiril Petkov, added that the first priority of the parties in Parliament should be to jointly call on the caretaker government to table a new draft state budget for 2023. In his words, the political debate on forming a regular government is not related to the adoption of the 2023 budget. "Let us unite, let us act responsibly so that the deficit does not go beyond its normal values, and so that, despite everything, the priority social policies can be implemented," Petkov added.
Ninova also said that the talks on the state budget with other parliamentary groups will continue.
