Messages from the 28 administrative districts of Bulgaria will be engraved on a marble slab at the base of the new Monument of Unification, the 111-metre high Rozhen flagpole in the Rhodope Mountains, the Heritage in the Future Foundation said Wednesday.
The messages will be engraved on a map of Bulgaria, each of them containing up to seven words. In many places around the country, local authorities have already announced competitions, some of which aimed entirely at schoolchildren and young people, to choose a text based on the principle of individual volunteering. The marble plaque with the map of Bulgaria will measure six metres by three metres and will be made at the Vratsa Vocational School of Stoneworking in the village of Kunino.
A time capsule will be embedded in the base of the 111-metre flagpole. A donation campaign under the patronage of President Rumen Radev is underway, supported by public figures, artists, athletes, scientists, successful representatives of various professions.
The Rozhen flagpole will have a diametre of 3 metres at the base and 0.75 metres at the top. The structure will be made of 12 sections with a length of 8 to 12 metres, and the total weight of the pole will be 55 tonnes. In November, the National Donation Campaign started collecting messages from today's young Bulgarians for the future.
