Representatives of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB) visited the Pamporovo mountain resort on Thursday within an information tour. Meeting with the guests, Pamporovo AD Executive Director Marian Belyakov said that in the last three months the resort has seen a notable increase in the number of tourists from Balkan markets, particularly from Romania, Moldova, the Republic of North Macedonia, and Serbia.

The meeting was attended by Smolyan Deputy Regional Governov Hristo Stanchev, Chepelare Mayor Boran Hadzhiev, Smolyan Deputy Mayor Marin Zaharieva, hotel owners, and local tourism business representatives.

Belyakov said that the plans for developing the mountain resort are not to make it a mass destination, because the region offers around 8,000 to 9,000 hotel beds. "In five to six years we want Pamporovo to be a boutique, luxurious, and expensive resort," he specified. The ski service should not be regarded as something cheap, he added.

In the last 10 years, very significant resources were invested in improving Pamporovo's ski zone, accommodation services and overall infrastructure, Belyakov went on to say. He presented as part of upcoming investments a planned replacement of the lift from Malina to Snezhanka Peak with a new six-person chairlift with the most modern technology. Pamporovo AD is also working on a new project to use mineral water from a deposit 15 km away from Pamporovo.

The Turkish tour operators were also acquainted with Pamporovo's summer programmes.

According to data of Pamporovo AD, the biggest relative share of the resort's clients are Bulgarians, followed by Brits. Turkish tourists are in fifth or sixth place but according to Belyakov, their number would be much higher if the visa regime is lifted or eased.
