site.btaUPDATED Bulgarian Security Services Seize Evidence to Investigate Potential Bulgarian Link to Crimean Bridge Explosion
Bulgarian security services were provided with all the requested information - notes and video footage - Executive Director of Rousse Free Zone Georgi Stoilov said on Wednesday. Stoilov's comment came after the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), quoted by TASS, said that "the explosive device [detonated on the Crimean Bridge] was disguised in rolls of construction polyethylene wraps on 22 pallets". According to FSB, the device "was shipped from the seaport of Odessa to the Bulgarian city of Ruse in early August" after arrangements on August 2 between the Ukrainian Translogistics UA LLC and the Bulgarian Baltex Capital S.A.
Stoilov said he was unable to give more information on the case at the time, adding that the customs representative of Baltex Capital S.A., which has no office in Ruse, is the freight forwarding company Tiva Com.
"We have no connection with the cargo," said Tiva Com manager Valentin Iliev. He explained that whether the cargo reaches its destination and what that destination might be is unknown to him. Iliev said that the headquarters of Baltex Capital S.A. are in Panama.
Iliev confirmed that the cargo, according to the paperwork, was rolls of construction polyethylene. "We are sending it to the final consignee that was submitted to us by the traders. We process the documents and present them to the customs authorities," Iliev said.
He added that the cargo was travelling from Ukraine to Romania via the Bulgarian city of Burgas, on the Black Sea.
Iliev was unaware what happened to the cargo after reaching Romania. "You must realize that today 15-20 trucks pass by carrying all sorts of goods. We are a clean freight forwarder. We know what goods are in the container just by documents," the manager said. According to him, it is the border control authorities' job to verify whether the documents are accurate.
Iliev believes in the Bulgarian state's position, which is that Bulgaria had no complicity in the preparation of the Crimean Bridge explosion.
