site.btaDefence Minister: Ukraine Requesting Not Only Ammunition but Also Anti-tank Equipment, Surface-to-Air Missile Systems
At a hearing in the parliamentary Defence Committee on Wednesday, caretaker Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov said that the Ukrainian side has requested not only various ammunition but also anti-tank equipment and surface-to-air missile systems. Nothing specific has been agreed upon, he specified. Stoyanov was taking a question about his visit to Ukraine in December 2022 and whether Ukraine had requested additional military aid from Bulgaria.
The value of the arms to be provided to Ukraine will be covered not by the Defence Ministry's budget but by the central government budget, the Minister explained. That is because the draft amendments to the Defence and Armed Forces Act concerning the establishment of a defence fund, are yet to be adopted.
In December 2022, Parliament adopted conclusively a bill to ratify an agreement between the Defence Ministries of Bulgaria and Ukraine on aid including arms, equipment and ammunition. By the MPs' decision, the list of armament was not gazetted.
