site.btaUPDATED Kiril Petkov Thanks North Macedonia's Authorities for Capturing Arsonist of Bulgarian Cultural Centre in Bitola

Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said that he welcomes the identifying of the perpetrator of the arson attack on the cultural centre of Macedonian Bulgarians in Bitola, the Council of Ministers said on Facebook on Tuesday.

“I thank the authorities in the Republic of North Macedonia and Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski for their effective actions, capturing the arsonist as soon as possible. We will certainly not give in to provocations aiming to sabotage our relations with our neighbors,” Petkov said.

The front door of the Ivan Mihailov Cultural Centre in Bitola was set on fire on the early morning of Saturday.

The arrest of the perpetrator was announced by North Macedonia's Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski earlier on Tuesday. According to Spasovski, the offender confessed to his actions.

Leader of the coalition party There Is Such a People, Slavi Trifonov, responded in a Facebook post by saying that it transpired who the arsonist is - a 34 year-old singer named Lambe Alabakovski. He has confessed to the crime. Meanwhile, social media users in North Macedonia started publishing photos of Lambe captioned "I am also Lambe Alabakovski! Je suis Lambe Alabakovski! We're all Lambe, stop fascism!," Trifonov said, adding that, if they're smart, the people of North Macedonia could learn a lesson from this. "I will tell you what it [the lesson] is. In the early morning of June 4, Lambe went to the Ivan Mihailov Cultural Centre, poured flammable liquid from a canister and set it on fire. The fire erupted so quickly that it caught the arsonist, Lambe. According to media reports in North Macedonia, he has suffered burns on his hands. What might the lesson be, dear neighbours from North Macedonia? The lesson is that you're burning yourselves with the hatred towards us".
