Bulgaria and Turkiye have a common will to strengthen their joint work on the border, National Assembly Chair Vezhdi Rashidov said on Friday at a meeting with a delegation of the internal affairs committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye, led by its chair Celalettin Guvenc. The Turkish parliamentarians are on a working visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of Hamid Hamid, chair of the parliamentary committee on internal security and public order.
Parliament Chair Vezhdi Rashidov noted that Bulgaria highly appreciates Turkiye’s commitment and contribution to the security of the common border and the curbing of illegal migration. Thanks to Turkiye's serious commitment, Bulgaria was protected from migration flows, he stressed.
According to him, these are common problems of the EU, Turkiye and Bulgaria, and solutions should be sought based on understanding, politics and diplomacy. “That is why I made a commitment for Bulgaria to be a mediator and to initiate a meeting between the EU and Turkiye on migration, border control and visa facilitation,” Rashidov said, adding that Bulgaria has always tried to be helpful in the dialogue between the EU and Turkiye.
The National Assembly Chair stressed that the relations between Bulgaria and Turkiye are excellent, a partnership has been established in various fields and their institutions maintain a fruitful dialogue, which can serve as an example of jointly tackling challenges.
The chair of the internal affairs committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye, Celalettin Guvenc, underlined that the two countries have common problems and can solve them together in dialogue and respecting the principles of good neighbourliness and friendship. He noted the good cooperation between the representatives of the different institutions of Bulgaria and Turkiye and pointed out that during his talks in Sofia he has received an assurance of the desire for joint fruitful work in the field of internal security.
Guvenc supported Rashidov’s idea for Bulgaria to initiate a meeting between the EU and Turkiye on migration, border control and visa facilitation. He also thanked Bulgaria for its serious attitude and cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
