Ivan Paslar, Chairman of the Moldovan Taraclia district where mostly ethnic Bulgarians live, is paying a working visit to Bulgaria until January 20. In Sofia, Paslar is scheduled to meet with members of the National Assembly and its Chairman, members of the European Parliament, as well as Foreign Ministry officials, the Taraclia Foreign Relations Office said.

On Tuesday, he met with Bulgarian MEP Angel Dzhambazki and discussed preserving the administrative and territorial integrity of Taraclia region. The two also talked about organizing a visit of a Taraclia delegation to Brussels in February, the district’s press office said.

Dzhambazki noted that Bulgaria and all Bulgarian MEPs would support the idea of the district’s integrity and offered to submit for voting by the Bulgarian Parliament a declaration affirming Taraclia District’s preservation. The MEP also said he would discuss measures in support of the district with his peers in the European Parliament.

Stepan Karamalak, head of the Taraclia District Council External Relations Service, told BTA that Paslar is scheduled to discuss the declaration in support of the district at the National Assembly. At the Culture Ministry, the visitor will focus on the activities involving marking the 150th death anniversary of national revolutionary hero Vassil Levski and the monument to him planned to be raised in Taraclia. Negotiations for the donation of a school bus and construction materials to help school repairs in the district are scheduled for Gabrovo and Varna.
